Local History
In the past, the Gamma Upsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi has been two other UNT campus organizations. The first one was known as the "Phoreffs." It was a social club that was founded in 1935 and met twice a month. The name had a secret meaning, and was the basis of the club. The name stood for 4 F's, which meant "Faithful Friendship Formed Forever." In 1944, the Phoreffs decided to become a local Greek sorority called the Delta Chi's. All of their members lived in Chilton Hall. Then, in 1953, the Delta Chi's applied to become a national sorority, to which they chose Alpha Delta Pi. Each went through pledgeship and were initiated into the oldest women's Greek organization. Miss Maxine Blake installed the Gamma Upsilon chapter at UNT.
