Why Should I Go Greek?

Nationally...

National studies conducted annually consistently indicate that students who choose to join Greek-letter organizations experience many positive benefits, including the following:

  • Greek students are more likely to stay in college than other students.
  • Alumni members achieve success. College grads who belong to a sorority or fraternity tend to be more financially successful than other college grads.
  • Greek alumni give more money to their alma maters, both more often and in greater quantity than non-Greek alumni.
  • Greek students are more active on campus and in community activities. Upon graduation, these members are also more likely to get involved in volunteer and charitable organizations.
  • Greeks are significantly more satisfied with their college experience than nonmembers.
  • 71% of all Greeks graduate, as opposed to only 50% of non-Greeks.
  • Since 1910, 85% of the Supreme Court have been Greek.
  • 85% of the Fortune 500 key executives are Greek.
  • 76% of the U.S. Senators are Greek.
  • All but two U.S.Presidents since 1825 have been Greek.
  • Both women elected to the U.S. Supreme Court were sorority members.
  • Over 85% of the student leaders on 730 campuses are members of Greek-letter organizations.
  • Less than 2% of an average college student's expenses go towards Greek membership dues.

Locally...

  • At UNT, the All-Sorority and All-Fraternity academic averages are consistently above those of non-Greek students.
  • Greek Life has been an integral part of UNT for more than 55 years. The UNT Greek community collectively donates approximately $100,000 per year to various charities!
  • The UNT Greek community conducts nearly 20,000 hours of community service each year.
  • We are responsible! Members who make commitments to themselves and their chapters prove to be among the most well-respected students.
  • We are leaders! Greek women and men are involved in campus activities, and are often the most visible campus leaders, and the most enthusiastic at University events.
  • We DO NOT haze! Hazing is illegal. The University of North Texas, the UNT Dean of Students office, and the UNT Panhellenic enforces both the state and federal laws.
  • We network! Greeks are afforded networking opportunities through alumni for job assistance and advice, internship exposure, and general direction when entering the work force.
  • We have FUN! Greeks have tons of fun and maintain a balance between the classroom and personal time. Events such as formal dances, retreats, and sisterhood/brotherhood activities are just a few of the fun experiences Greeks have each year.
